Now that our new patio is finished, I have been adding some personal touches. We put up some string lights around the border posts for some added character at night. It looks so nice that I can't wait to have people over so we can sit out there and enjoy them! It's still a little chilly outside, but this weekend we are having Riley's first birthday party, so they'll be lots of friends over and we can truly enjoy it in the way that I planned.
Riley started walking a few weeks ago and is now moving around the house quite well. Lots of personality showing these days; especially when Kaley and her want the same toy. Riley has decided she needs to stand her ground and is getting rather good at not being pushed around by big sister, Kaley.
Kaley has been enjoying her therapy sessions with Renee and Leah at FCC and has really begun to show signs of improvement. She has made more eye contact in the last few months and at times really makes an effort to use her words. This is usually rather random, but it gives us hope. She still gets somewhat frustrated, but unfortunately am good at predicting what she wants (not especially a good thing, when I should be making her work for it). We are still waiting to hear from the school district with an official acceptance into their program for early assistance and preparation for kindergarten. I am so thankful for all our therapists in the last year, Amanda, Kira, Renee, and Leah. I am not sure where we would be without them. They have supported me and made me feel less alone, giving me strength to keep moving forward so I can give Kaley everything she needs. We are still feeling the shock from the diagnosis we received, HFA (High Functioning Autism) about a month ago. It now has me watching Riley ever so closely to see if I notice anything different from when Kaley was her age.
Well, this was my first blog post and I hope I can find time to keep this up on a regular basis. Two little ones sure keep me busy!
